Jim Roberts

My work continues to be sculptural responses of my day-to-day exposure in the current politically divisive climate I find myself trapped; they are a distillation of the endless cycle of news and events that affect us all.

Working primarily in mixed media constructions, I look for the quiet beauty in ordinary, marginalized, and discarded objects and their connection to a larger world. Recent works have grown out of decayed pieces of metal, bone, and other found objects and how they serve as metaphor for the society in which we live.

For the last 24 years, Jim Roberts has been a public school teacher living and working in Carroll County, Maryland. In 2000 he received his MFA from Towson University, with a concentration in sculpture. His studio is located on his property along with a small gallery where he displays his completed artworks.
