Prior to entering the world of ceramic sculpture, Leslie King enjoyed a lifelong career working in the arts.
 
After graduating from the University of Maryland in Theater, Leslie worked as a puppet maker and puppeteer in Central Park in NYC where she first developed her love of characters and their narratives.
 
Then, as a scenic artist Leslie began to work, for the first time, on large production teams for opera, ballet and dramatic theater plays.  Working at The Houston Grand Opera, Houston, TX, and then at Det Kongelige Teater – the Danish Royal Theater, Copenhagen, DK, she honed her skills painting on large scale main-stage productions in all genres, time periods and languages.  
 
Graduating with a degree in graphic design from Danmarks Design Skole, Leslie was hired as a graphic artist and videographer for CSC in Denmark. For a decade, she worked internationally on projects in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Great Britain, France, and the US. 
 
Leslie’s work consists of her figurative ceramic sculptures inspired from her memories, moments in time and retrospection of her varied creative life. Each piece combines Leslie’s experience in theater, art and the mastery of the clay to form narrative characters representing universal dramatic archetypes such as: the hero, the mentor, the shadow, the trickster, the shapeshifter, the herald, the innocent and the guardian.

Leslie has been creating narrative ceramic sculptures since 2016, earning her MFA in Ceramic Sculpture from Hood College in 2021. She is represented by NOMA Gallery in Frederick, MD.
